Practice Interview Questions from Your Résumé

Reviewed and updated 2026-07-28.

Your résumé is the interviewer’s starting evidence, but it is not an answer bank. Each bullet can trigger questions about scope, ownership, decisions, conflict, measurement, and learning. Turn the document into practice by expanding the most relevant bullets into verified stories and asking follow-ups that test whether the story is specific enough.

  1. Circle claims that invite a follow-upGrowth, leadership, improvement, scale, and ownership claims should each have a concrete example behind them.
  2. Expand the hidden contextWhat was broken, difficult, uncertain, or time-sensitive? The résumé compresses this; the interview needs enough context to understand your judgment.
  3. Identify your decisionA list of tasks is not yet a story. Find the choice you made and why you chose it over the alternatives.
  4. Verify the resultUse a confirmed metric when available. Otherwise describe the observable change and avoid manufactured precision.
  5. Match stories to the target rolePrioritize evidence that answers the new employer’s problems, while keeping the facts and original scope intact.
  6. Practice alternate wordingAsk the same competency as conflict, influence, failure, or ambiguity. Flexible recall is more robust than memorized prose.
